Brunch can do good - we gathered to FUNraise in order to support the needs of asylum seekers and refugees living at the YMCA Residence, so that they could pay for education programs, daycare staff and outings for the people in their care. It was beautiful - click event to see the images!
Following a spate of suicides in the indigenous community of Attawapiskat, WeDoSomething Mtl decided to do something, so we searched for and found the only indigenous-run conference to fight suicide, Dialogue for Life. On May 30th, sixty WeDoSomething-ers gathered at Lawrence restaurant to connect with one another, and to learn. Click on the event title to see the images.
The Native Women's Shelter of Montreal was the first time WeDoSomething worked with the indigenous community, and it taught us more than any school ever has about our government's treatment of the indigenous communities and culture. Click on event image to see how it went!
The 2nd WeDoSomething Mtl funraiser was held at the fabulous Restaurant Orange Rouge, in honour of the Canadian Red Cross. The Canadian government had agreed to bring 25k Syrian refugees to Canada, and had pledged to match any money raised for the Canadian Red Cross. The president of the Red Cross, Conrad Sauvé came from Ottawa to share his knowledge with us and answered questions. Click the image to see how it went.
2 weeks after 3-yr old Syrian refugee Aylan Kurdi’s body was found drowned on a Turkish beach, our founder Sophie Tarnowska organized our first FUNraiser for displaced Syrians stuck in Syria, via Doctors without Borders.
